HOW EXPENSIVE IS IT TO REMOVE SNAKES?

One visit snake removal is the cheapest option if it is possible. Often though, the snake has made it to the inside of the home and exclusion is necessary to stop the problem. One visit snake removal cost can vary depending on how hard it is to find all the snakes and how cooperative the snake is. Snakes often dart into hard to reach crevices that make removal much more complicated. Snakes can also reach attics either through the interior of walls or by climbing the exterior of the building. Searching attics in addition to crawlspaces adds time and cost to a visit. At its cheapest, a one visit removal is under $100. If the snake has ventured inside, it is probable that it has been making regular visits hunting rodents and a full exclusion project is needed. Snake exclusion cost, as with other species, varies greatly in difficulty and cost between projects. The number of entrances, building size, etc. changes the cost of the project. Generally speaking this holds true with most species.

The major variables that make snake control different from controlling other species is:

1. Snakes have a slow metabolic rate which makes trapping and the use of one way doors much more difficult. Trapping an animal with bait that only eats only every week or two can be a slow process.

2. It is a challenge finding all the entrances. Snakes are excellent at fitting through very small holes. They also have a very “low to the ground perspective”. Both these factors make it easy to miss entrances. Raccoon entrances, for instance, have to be at least 3.5” in height. A 3.5” entrance is much more obvious to detect than a .5” or even smaller hole in the case of a juvenile or small-sized snake species. It is good to plan monitoring visits into the project to account for this challenge.

For a small to medium-sized home with an average number of entrances you might spend $500-700 on snake proofing. If extended trapping is necessary, it would be an additional cost. Again, every home is different so an onsite inspection and estimate is necessary before a solid price can be set.

Snake exclusion is much more expensive than buying a can of snake repellent, but you are a lot less likely to pick up a laundry basket and find a black snake behind it like one of my customers did last year. You can’t count on repellents to keep snakes out. If you are worried about snakes in your house, it is well worth the money to secure your home once and for all.
