HOW EXPENSIVE IS IT TO REMOVE SKUNKS?

Removing a problem skunk from the back yard is relatively simple requiring only a couple of visits. This is relatively cheap costing as little as $160. This is well worth the price considering the improved odds of getting the skunk out without a stink. And, if things do go bad…at least you won’t be the one wearing the stink. If the skunk sprays on your property the smell will last at least a couple of weeks. It will be very strong at first then begin to decline returning occasionally.

If the skunk has found its way into a building, your work will require removal of the skunk, sealing entrances, and possibly descenting the building if something bad has happened under the building. Removal of the skunk from the building usually goes hand in hand with sealing the entrances in the foundation. The cost of sealing entrances is variable. It depends on the number of entrances, building construction techniques, etc. A single entrance that is easy to repair can cost as little as $75 and go up from there for more complicated situations. Trap retrieval will require an additional visit and time and are not included in the cost of sealing the entrance. An average skunk under the house problem cost on average $350. If a skunk or another animal has been under your home, it is highly recommended that the animal be excluded from the crawlspace. An open foundation is a no vacancy sign on the side of the wildlife highway.

Skunk Spray Descenting

Descenting the building will probably require crawling under the building to the affected area and fogging in or spraying a descenting agent. It can occasionaly mean retrieving a skunk carcass. This is far from my favorite part of the job. A quality respirator is a good idea in this situation. Descenting is an additional cost and is not included in the exclusion or trapping work.

Descenting solution can be sprayed onto a specific spot if the “spray site” is known or it can be fogged in for better coverage of a general area if the exact site of the spraying is unknown. Several different descenting formulations are available for different situations and all of them work better than tomato juice. Descenting varies a little in cost depending on the difficulty of access, size of the area to be treated, etc. but generally the cost around $100. Descenting is recommended if the smell is strong inside the home.
