Animal Control (dogs, cats, chickens, and other domestic animals)

(Scroll Down for Injured and Orphaned Wildlife)

Each year the Wildlife Company LLC receives hundreds of calls that relate to pet and domestic animal issues in our region. To help callers find the resource they need I have assembled a page that puts together all the contacts and information for calls of this type. Wildlife Company LLC is licensed to handle issues with nuisance wildlife (bats, squirrels, flying squirrels, groundhogs, raccoons, opossums, rats, mice, birds, snakes, etc.) Domestic animals (cats, dogs, chickens, pigs, cows, etc.) are considered personal property and are not covered under our wildlife control license. Domestic animal issues are normally handled by your local animal control officer. Listed below are all the contact information that I could find for our local animal control departments. Animal control and city/county pet shelters work hand in hand animal control officers are often have their offices in local pet shelters.

From the Kingsport city web site : “While the Kingsport Police Department typically does not investigate calls involving animals, K.P.D. Officers are always available to respond to situations where a vicious animal is an immediate danger to the public. In such an event, citizens are encouraged to contact Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111 or in a genuine emergency simply call 9-1-1, and a Patrol Officer will respond. In almost all situations, and especially after hours and on weekends, a K.P.D. Patrol Officer will have a faster response time than an SBK Animal Control Officer. “

Injured and Orphaned Wildlife

Although the Wildlife Company LLC is licensed to trap and be in possession of certain wildlife species, we are not licensed to care for injured or orphaned wildlife. This task is covered by licensed Wildlife Rehabilitators. Generally, rehabilitators require that animals be brought in and do not pick up. This may vary between rehabilitators. Wildlife Company LLC can transport some wildlife species, but must charge for a service call. Virginia only has one wildlife rehabilitator in this end of the state. Tennessee has several. Their information is listed below.
